As announced this morning by the Basingstoke Gazette, your GalxC Cooling Services sponsored Basingstoke Bison are pleased to confirm both Alex Mettam and Jordan Lawday will be back to guard the pipes for the forthcoming 2022/23 season.

For Alex this will be his 5th season with the Bison, albeit 2020/21 was cancelled due to Covid.

Having joined us from the Bracknell Bees, Mettsy instantly became a favourite with fans of the Herd and has continued to endear himself to everyone connected to the Bison with his often heroic displays in the No 28 shirt.

34 year old Alex last season had a .879% save average and conceded on average 3.7 goals per game

On re-signing for the Herd Alex himself had this to say,

“Really happy to be back for another year playing for this club and for Ash and Tosh which is a real privilege, so when they asked me back it was an easy decision. We didn’t achieve our goal of winning trophies last season which only makes me more determined to do anything I can to help us win this year. I know Ash will assemble another good group of guys and a team capable of winning every night”.

23 year old Basingstoke-born Jordan first appeared in a Bison shirt at U16 level during the 2010/11 season and over the coming years, he iced for the U18 and U20’s as well as the Basingstoke Buffalo, before finally making his senior Bison debut when he joined us from Telford Tigers part way through the 2021/22 season.

Whilst icing for the Herd last season Lawday had a 3.52 goals per game average and a save percentage of .887%

Jordan commenting on re-signing for his home-town club said,

“I’m really excited to be back for the new season. Everyone was great to me when I came in late last year. Basingstoke is my home and it’s always a great feeling putting a bison jersey on and playing in front of such an amazing fan base”

Coach Tait commenting on his first two signings for the 2022 /23 campaign said,

“I think it was important to get both these guys back. Last year we felt we had to make a move and although it could have been perceived as a gamble, I think it paid off”.

“Both goalies have found a chemistry and a relationship that seem to make each other better. They push each other to be better every time we’re on the ice and I think in the long run it will benefit us”.

Keep your eye out on the Bison website and social media channels as in the next week or so we will be announcing more player signings and our Season Ticket package for the 2022 / 23 season.
