In three days time the GalxC Cooling Services Basingstoke Bison take to the ice in pre-season action versus Bees IHC. Meanwhile Coach Tait is pleased to announce that we have added 2 local “Prospects” players to the 2022 / 23 Bison roster.
Roman Cathcart & Ollie Hemmings Maher have both been confirmed as two-way players who will train and when available get ice time with the Herd, both will continue to ice for the Junior Bison 18’s team, Basingstoke Buffalo in NIHL S2 and Slough Jets NIHL S1 team.
16 year old Cathcart ices for the Junior Bison and has picked up Conference honours playing for the South West at U13, U15 & U17 level, he has recently been a triallist for the Great Britain U16 & U18 teams.
Our second prospect player is another 16 year old, Ollie Hemmings Maher, he also ices for the Junior Bison, he too has previously been selected for Conference honours with the South West at U11, U13, U15 & U17 age groups, last season Ollie scored the most goals in the U16 league where he hit the back of the twine on 23 occasions.
Coach Tait commenting on giving the two local lads their big opportunity said,
“Both these guys have huge potential and being able to work with them early means they’ll have an idea of what’s needed when their first opportunity arises. Roman already has good speed and size, whilst Ollie shows a lot of the things that you just can’t coach in a player. It’s exciting to be able to work with them already”.
