The GalxC Cooling Services Basingstoke Bison, are saddened to announce this weekend will see Alex Sampford appearing in a Bison jersey for the last time, as he leaves to take up a career in the RAF as an Air Ops Control Officer.
Basingstoke born Sampford, who began his hockey career as an Under 10 in the Bison junior set up played the majority of his hockey in Slough at U14 to U18 levels and by the end of Sundays game against Raiders IHC, will have made just over 200 appearances for his local club, spread across the Bison, the U18’s and the Buffalo, while contributing 75 goals + 70 assists.
Alex leaves with all our thanks for his efforts during his time with us, and our best wishes for the future, no doubt fans of the Stampede will ensure he gets the send off he deserves on Sunday night.
Coach Tait commented,
“Stampy is obviously going to be missed. He’s been a big part of things for the last few years and has scored some big goals along the way! He’s been waiting for this opportunity for a while now and we obviously wish him the best of luck in his new role!”
Alex commenting on his departure ahead of his last weekend in a Bison uniform said,
“I’m very sad to be leaving the Bison at this time and absolutely gutted I can’t see the whole season through with the team. I began playing here when I was 8 years old and I have loved every second and opportunity the sport has given me. I am grateful to be part of such a fantastic community, and it has been a pleasure to meet so many lifelong friends”.
Alex continued,
“I want to thank Ash, Tosh and John for bringing me in to the team over the last 5 years, it’s been a privilege to be part of this club. Finally, it’s been an absolute honour to play ice hockey with some great team mates, in front of the best and loudest fans in the league, thanks for all your support towards the team and I hope to see you all again one day.”
