As exclusively revealed in this mornings Basingstoke Gazette, the Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce that Defenceman Oliver Stone will be back in a Herd jersey for the 2021/22 season. The ‘stay-at-home’ Defenceman returns to the Bison for a third season (second on the ice) having iced in 46 games during the 2019/20 season, scoring 9 assists, whilst serving 22 minutes in penalties.
Swindon-born Defenceman Ollie is a product of the Okanagan Ice Hockey Academy based in Swindon and has also represented Great Britain at U18 and U20 age groups.
Prior to joining the Herd in 2019/20, Ollie had previously iced for the Milton Keynes Thunder as well as the Swindon Wildcats in both NIHL 1 & 2. More recently he made 6 appearances for the Slough Jets in the 2020/21 NIHL South Cup, scoring 5 assists.
23 year old Ollie, who shoots left handed, is 5’10” tall and weighs 159 lbs, had this to say about returning to Basingstoke for another season,
“I’m really happy to be back with the Bison for another year. I enjoyed playing in front of the fans last year and I think we did well. Ash has put together another good group of guys and I’m really excited to get going”
Coach Tait commenting on Ollie returning for a third season said,
“Bringing Ollie back was never a question in my mind. He’s an ever present for us and he’s the type of guy that goes about his job in an understated way. You might not notice him but if you took him out the line up you’d see the hole left. His work ethic is second to none and he puts his body on the line every night!”
Ollie will once again wear the number 6 jersey for the Herd in 2021 / 22 and his light, dark and home warm-up jerseys are now available for supporters to have the opportunity to purchase and loan back to the club Ollie’s jersey through our ever popular Jersey “Own & Loan” scheme, if you are interested in applying for one of Ollie’s jerseys please send your application to hello@bstokebison.co.uk
