The final weekend of Planet Ice National League hockey prior to Christmas sees the GalxC Cooling Services Basingstoke Bison taking on the Peterborough Phantoms and Raiders IHC.
On Saturday evening we welcome Phantoms to the Silverdome Arena, face off will be the usual 6.30pm.
Phantoms are 2nd in the league table with 42 points from 25 games, courtesy of 20 wins in regulation and 2 OT losses. They are the league’s leading goal scorers with 135, at an average of 5.4 per game. 73 of these goals have come from Padelek (19), Sladkovsky (16), Speirs (16), with both Billing and McEwen contributing 11 each.
Peterborough have recently added to their firepower by re-signing Martins Susters after a season away from hockey. Susters, although Latvian by birth, has been associated with the Phantoms since the 2011/12 season, when he iced for their U16’s.
On Sunday the Herd travel to the Sapphire Leisure Centre in Romford to play Raiders IHC. Face off has been moved from the advertised 5.15pm to 6.30pm, this was requested by the Raiders management to allow fans to watch the World Cup Final which kicks off at 3.00pm.
Raiders currently sit 2 places and 4 points above us, having played 23 games to the Bison’s 24. No doubt the Herd will be looking to reverse last Saturday’s 2-4 home defeat to the same opposition.
As for the Bison, keeping things tight in the opening 20 minutes will have been Coach Tait’s key message in training this week, allowing both opponents a head start last weekend won’t have gone down well with the coaching staff.
Fans of the Stampede, the message to you remains the same…….
Loud, Louder, Loudest.
