Firstly, a Happy 2023 to everyone connected with the GalxC Cooling Services Basingstoke Bison.
This weekend sees a return to the more familiar format of Saturday at home and Sunday away, following the Christmas and New Year schedule.
On Saturday night, Slough-based Bees IHC (formerly Bracknell Bees) visit the Silverdome Arena, face off will be 6.30pm. Sunday means a trip to Shropshire to play Telford Tigers, with the game facing off at 6.00pm.
Bees IHC sit 11th in the league standings, with 12 points from 30 games courtesy of 5 regulation victories and 2 OT losses. This leaves them 11 points adrift of the last play-off spot, not having won since beating Tigers in Telford at the end of November.
Although, there’s nothing like a local derby in which to try and reverse that current run of form, something the Bison coaching staff will no doubt make the players aware of in the run up to the game.
Sunday’s opponents are the Telford Tigers, another team searching for some morale boosting wins as they sit in 7th place on 25 points from 32 games. Tigers are 2 points ahead of Pitbulls who have played one game less and 6 points ahead of the Bison who have 2 games in hand on Telford.
Tigers only win in the last 10 games was a 5-3 victory in Bristol on December 27th, a result that the Pitbulls spectacularly reversed the following night with a 9-1 score line.
So there we have it, Bison and both their opponents this weekend are languishing at the wrong end of the Planet Ice National League table. All 3 are out of form and desperately looking for positive results to get back into Play-Off contention, or in Tigers case, maintain theirs.
As announced earlier this week, the Herd have strengthened their defence by signing the vastly experienced Neil Liddiard and his presence in time for this vital weekend will give the team the relative luxury of full quota of defenders.
If ever there was a time for the Wall of Sound to live up to its name, Saturday night will be that time…..over to you Bison fans!
