The final weekend of January sees the GalxC Cooling Services Basingstoke Bison in Planet Ice National League action against the Seahawks and Bees.
On Saturday we welcome the Hull Seahawks to the Silverdome Arena, where the face off will be 6.30pm.
Seahawks sit 11th in the league table, having played 37 games to date, with 15 points courtesy of 7 wins in regulation and 1 OT loss. This leaves them 10 points off of the final play-off berth.
To say the season has been difficult for Hull is something of an understatement, injuries, suspensions and the well documented visa issues regarding both imports, which delayed their arrival until November ‘22, all of which hampered the clubs efforts to be fully competitive from day one.
However, the Seahawks roster which includes former Bison favourites Declan Balmer and Tom Ralph, has quality in the form of Nathem Salem, James Archer, imports Emil Svec and Andrej Themar plus Captain Sam Towner, hence there’s every reason for Head Coach Matty Davies to be optimistic about the future.
Sunday’s game against Bees IHC has a face off time of 5.00pm at the Slough Ice Rink, aka The Hangar.
Bees currently occupy 10th place in the league standings, having played 37 games which have yielded 18 points as a result of 7 wins in regulation and 4 OT losses.
Although 7 points away from 8th, the final play-off spot, they will consider that achievable especially with 19 games still to play.
Bees imports Brendon Walkom and Player Coach Dominic Gabaj lead their scoring, Walkom has 41 points (26+15) and Gabaj 37 (15+22) although he has played 14 games less than Walkom, in the main due to some recent ‘time off’ courtesy of the EIHA Discipline team.
Following last weekends disappointing results at the hands of the Raiders, the Herd will be aiming to return to winning ways, fixtures against 2 of the 3 teams below them, one of which is a local derby, means there will be no lack of incentive for Ash and the boys to achieve this aim.
Fans of the Bison, although you can be sure the team will give it 100% in both games, they still need your support, as always it’s………….
Loud, Louder, Loudest.
